My favorite crunchy music server was having a compilation and contest where you use one of three melodies to make a song, with it having to have the melody recognizable throughout the song, and contestants had only one week to make the track
I wanted to participate but work was kicking my ass that week, so i watched from the sidelines. I unfortunately missed the listening parties, but found the time to listen through all of the different tracks and vote on my favorites. I liked all of them, but if i had to narrow my favorites down i'd say they were probably tracks 1,5 and 7. you can find them in the player or at the bottom of the article
The first track is a track from 9 ʘ 9 ʘ 9 called Melody2. It's my personal favorite from the compilation. It's shrill and crunchy and the song has a lot of movement and power behind it. The melody in my opinion is very inspiring, and feels like climbing out of a hole. I especially love the delay the melody has throughout the song. I feel it pairs really well with the distortion and makes the travel in the melody sound amazing
Following that, was BODUXH's submission, WWWTF. It has most everything i like in a track: Melodies with travel, a lot of distortion and good bass presented in a wall of sound. it's music for smoking a cigarette at 1 am. or bad days.
The third track i wanted to mention was the submission by reathance.
I especially loved the snare choice
and the little blipping sound throughout and the vocal choice was chilling alongside the melody. I love this song.
My favorites:
1 - Melody2 by 9 ʘ 9 ʘ 9,
5 - WWWTF by boduxh,
7 - Kalovie Massi (wasta) by reathance
Existing as one of the few pockets of people into this grainy, gnarly overdriven madness in music form outside of a few private communities, these people are an amazing pool of talent from all over the globe. With them having finished their first comp album i figured I'd get to know them a bit better.
Rising from the remnants of a past dying server some time around 2021, World Wide Waste was the result of the last motivated admin no longer giving a shit. they're a friendgroup made of just anyone who shows up and sticks around and there's some legendary people there making music as you could hear from the comp. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but if it is, you tend to really enjoy it. Speaking with snybun, they told me that they have more events planned in the future, but as they said: "considering this took us like 4 months to finally do itll be a while before the next event lol"
