Tree Critters is a new net-label that i've been on-and-off following since they started in may of this year with the Tree Trunks Vol. 1 Comp. Founded by Lucy Starmoon and Blushy Buttercup with support from ZEWEI and my friend Bong Ross (The internet's busiest Transfem!). Platforming mainly genre bending/inadherent artists, they push the envelope on post-*descriptor* esque music and their first comp really puts the full array of talent on display.
So far my experience lurking ahs been pretty good! they're a friendly group with a lot of stuff going on, publishing 4 albums and a compilation for artists in their discord that aprticipate with them. So far all my interactions there have been positive and everyone is supportive of different stylesand arts and whatnot. Definitely a furry-tilt to the community but what did you expect from a company called Tree-critters
Their first project was a comp to raise money to get their business licenses sorted out and from the sound of it, it worked! There were 29 tracks, all from different artists with different styles all submitted by members of their discord and label
One of the cool things about their sound-spanning vibe is that their starter comp has many styles to enjoy. The group favors breaks which should come as no sprurise to anyone who is a long-time sadgirlsclub patron, but they do a good job capturing other sounds at different tempos and whatnot, making room for housier four on the floor and ambient works. Despite the range and breaks, this album has a general net positive hit towards the happier side of the vibe scale. That's not to say the whole thing's angel sounds
It's ahrd to pick favorites from a 29 comp track but if i did, some of my favorite tracks off this ep were emmcare - dead girls, Tsukilnking - HIT THAT PERFECT BREAK and Mindvacy's track SATISFACTION PUNK!, though pretty much everything held my attention!
I think one of the coolest aspects of the comp is if you're a fan of the radio you literally already listen to like,,, half the artists in the comp, like Kiitzuna, Mindvacy, Starmoon and Gods Drunkest Driver.
They've released 3 albums and a single so far on their official bandcamp page since their first comp and have plans on releasing physical media for artists like tapes and jewel case cd's. Right now though, they've been focusing on digital releases of albums via their Bandcamp and promoting artists that release through them on their Twitter
